REHUGO Analysis: Observation

A. Cartoon artist: Wasserman

B. In today's modern culture, society relies heavily on the Internet because it's accessibility has changed our way of living. It saves people time and money through Internet banking facilities; people can deposit bills, transfer money through accounts, make Internet reservations, and much more. With this astonishingly rapid transfer of data, people do not have to travel as often. Contact can be perpetuated from almost anywhere in the world.

C. This cartoon effectively depicts how the Internet has affected and changed our culture. Human contact was once the only way people associated with each other. Now communication online is possible, the need for personal interactions has gone down. The tone of the cartoon can be interpreted as cynical, however, because human contact is essential for a functional community and is not a thing most people are willing to lose.

D. There are many positive characteristics that the Internet has, but there comes a point when it negatively impacts people's lives. With the growth of online communities, there is a decline in physical human interactions. Studies have shown that social skills have been eroded by online communications. People are now more inclined to exclude social contact with others because they prefer to use a computer to interact.
