REHUGO Analysis – Visual: Political Cartoon

A. Cartoon Attached-artist: Mike Baldwin

B. In this cartoon, the artist is offering a perspective on the trend of the support of one’s family on an individual.

C. The visual features a couple enjoying dinner, but behind the male counterpart is his family. Viewers are also able to see the family being the support in eating his supper, while he just sits there. He then mentions that, he has a very supportive family as it is states at the bottom of the picture “I have a very supportive family.” The primary source of effectiveness this gives on the viewers is the image of how the support of the family does not only happen during a child’s youth but also as they grow up to be an adult. A family’s support carries a long way and the individual then becomes dependent that someone will always being there to do everything for them, just like in the picture where the man is just sitting there as he is being fed by the rest of his family. While he is not doing it on his on, it shows that he is being dependent on his family to serve him by feeding him his meal.

D. Many individuals get through their youth and become successful adults in the future by having the support of their family. In this case, many become dependent on the support of their family that they are easily able to get through the challenges life throws at them because their family is always right behind them as a support system. There are many whom rely on the support of their family too much that sometimes they can’t really do it for themselves so they are in constant need for their family to do it for them. For example, a parents whose son is still living with them at the age of 25 because he doesn’t have the job and money to support himself. But if you think about it, one day, you will have to be independent because parents will not always be there to provide for you and support you. The support of one’s family continues to follow you throughout your life but that doesn’t mean you can’t do things on your on and make things happen for yourself. Of course for you to be able to do that you will need your family’s support, so you know you aren’t in it alone.
