REHUGO Analysis: Universal Truth-quotes

A. “If the family were a fruit, it would be an orange, a circle of sections, held together but separable - each segment distinct.” ~Letty Cottin Pogrebin

The author of this quote is Letty Cottin Pogrebin. She was one of the leaders in the women’s rights movement who mixed her ideas of women’s freedom with her Jewish values. She was also a writer who wrote the novel, Three Daughters.

“We never know the love of our parents for us till we have become parents.” –Henry Ward Beecher

Henry Ward Beecher was a clergyman, social reformer, abolitionist, and speaker that lived in the mid to late 19th century. He was famous for his trial in the year 1875.

B. These two quotes both relate to family. Specifically, the strong love and bond of a family.

The first quote talks about the relationship of a family. They are close to each other and complete one another like pieces of an orange coming together. But each family is separated by individuality. Every member of a family may have different characteristics and interests from one another. They may have different backgrounds or histories, but they still click and bond together as one.

The second quote talks about the realization of the amount of love parents have on their children. It’s implying that in their younger years, most children and teenagers do not see the stress and sacrifices their parents make until they are older. Until we grow and become parents ourselves, we see why our parents did what they did and that they only did it because of their love for us.

C. These two quotes connect to most families today. Although many people are different from each other, they still bond as a whole to create a family. By this, they can never be alone even if they are far from each other. Teenagers and young adults can relate to the second quote. Most people only see the faults their parents made and feel hated. But until they become parents themselves, they finally see the love their parents actually had for them.
